Weekend Round Up 29/03/26
29 March 2026
Northern 6 and 12 stage relays - Carlisle
Sheepmount Stadium and its surroundings were the host of this years Northern 6 and 12 stage championships a new venue for all of us giving us a restbite of travelling to Liverpool and Manchester coupled with the hope we don’t have to deal with gale force winds that we were treated with at Redcar last year.
The course being picturesque and fast with only one hill of note at the far end of the course. The race was split into long and short legs being 7k and 5k respectively being a kinder/shorter long leg than years past. Unfortunately we did not send a men's 12 stage team due to lack of numbers
We sent a strong women’s team (6 stage) all of whom put good runs despite the some running through 4 seasons in their 5 or 7k leg. Zarah put the team in a strong position (16th) despite being thrown in lions den of this being her first senior relay for the club and being handed first leg (and long leg) against the fastest women in the north. Kate's ever improving performances delivered a 5k PB on equally daunting 2nd leg. Elisabeth produced a minor miracle keeping a completely strapped foot together to deliver the fastest short leg for the team. Carol held the team position well despite being on an unfavoured long leg. Joanna zoned everything out, which included the encouragement from the local pub with no prizes for guessing for who was in there, and backed up her signals performance with an equally good performance here. Mandy then rounded the team home in 23rd which is the best performance the club has ever had at the Northern 6 stage which is a sign of things to come from the ever improving and growing Women's teams .
