The national made a long overdue return to the North East after 14 years since the region last hosted the event at Herrington Country Country Park. for those who have run any of the cross countries this season you had usually been hit with very steep hills or an outrageous amount of mud. However the course at Sedgefield presented a gentle, if consistently, rolling course with only two small particularly muddy sections.

The club boasted 3 full teams being a big increase on previous years with the majority running never having raced at the national before.&nbsp;

First off the under 20 tackling the 5.6k course. with Hatti and Zarah being 1st and 4th North East finishers respectively with Joanna following close behind to round out a good team resulting finishing 1st North East Team&nbsp;

Next off the Senior Women with 4 needed for a team we had the required 4 in Elisabeth, Carol, Agnes and Cat joining the over 500 strong field. the 8.3k consisting of 2 large laps. Elisabeth being the only one of the four had raced at the national previously. The unique experience having been well received mixing it up with runners from all corners of the country&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

The final race of the day was the Senior mens 3 lap 12.4k slog. despite a couple of drop outs and illnesses we managed to field the 6 required for a team to join the 1000 plus starters who created a spectacle of a start thundering into the first corner. before the 3 laps stretched out the field making the 45+ minutes of effort that little more gruelling.&nbsp;

Duncan made the trip over to Ireland for one of the most competitive 5k's on the calendar&nbsp;

Ash had a successful run at Derwent reservoir 10 mile picking up a 3rd place for his efforts

Blackhill Bounders Anniversary Run. Sunday 15th February

Join us next Sunday afternoon for the anniversary run. We will meet at the bandstand at Blackhill Park to start our run at 1pm. The run route will be approx 6 miles around the heritage paths. Route shown in picture. All welcome.

Join us afterwards at Blackhill Club to celebrate, please bring contributions of food/snacks which we can share, these can be dropped off at the club from 12.30pm or brought along after the run.

A successful trip over to the lakes for a couple of the juniors from the club representing Durham against Northumberland, Cumbria, Cleveland, North Yorkshire.&nbsp;

and finally for something to make all of us jealous the main complaint from this race in Dubai was that it was too hot... collectively very small violins are being played&nbsp;

A literal bus load had a seaside outing at Loftus and braved the hills, fog, wet fields, fog, freezing temperatures, more fog and delusion.&nbsp;

Summed up "perfectly" by one (not naming names) as "I have never run race and felt so high during and afterwards".... make of that what you will.&nbsp;&nbsp;

North East Harrier League - Wrekenton&nbsp;

A significantly warmer (however wetter) return to Wrekenton was on the cards for the club this weekend with a great turnout from the club despite the late night from the presentation night the evening before. A introduction for the season to "proper" cross country with some actual mud and spikes being pretty essential and continuously hilly course. Fenn put a good performance (despite mentioned earlier) the under 11s race removed most the mud and hills and battled through. The Women's team continued their continued improving team performances with led by debutant Zarah who managed to get promoted to the fast pack to bring a long overdue multi member presence to the fast pack in the women's race. the men's strength in depth continued to improve with better pack which shows encouragement for the future. as long as the rest of the season.&nbsp; &nbsp;
