Weekend round up 7/9/26

Farringdon Cross Country Relays 

The curtain raiser to the cross-country season at Farringdon was the solitary action for this week but delivered in spades as well as the scary reminder that its actually September and we are moving off road again.

We arrived with a larger turnout than in previous years with a men’s team and two women’s teams.

The women’s relay set off first at 12 with Zarah and Carol being their teams respective first legs on a course described as never flat, nothing to be fearful about but annoyingly difficult to execute one flat out lap perfectly. Unlike the days gone by where this venue was a harrier league venue everyone had just the one, 3-ish K, lap to tackle. With perhaps Zarah having a longer race (or the worlds fastest cool down) by going straight to a christening after her race.   Maddie made a long-awaited return to running for the club in a team event after her university adventures. With all of us delighted to see her back  she continued her good form with a solid 2nd leg.  Agnes, also on second leg, continuing the good work from the summer making light work of the course. Rounding the teams off Bianca’s return to cross country after several years got the first women’s team home in 11th position and Liz, who fantastically helped us fill the second women’s team at less than hours’ notice, brought the final team home in 27th position  

Just before 1pm the men team were led off on first leg by Jordan who, much to Gary’s “delight”, come home clear in first place with the added bonus of recording the fastest leg of the day. Gary held the team in a strong 3rd position with the previous days full training and a warm up that rivalled stewy’s longest. Finally George put in gutsy performance on a distance practically alien to him given his race mileage is usually in double figures and decimal points are rounding errors to bring the men home in 6th position

All in all everyone appreciated the chance to remember what cross country was like before the season kicks off “properly” at the end of September
